Conférence des ministres africains des finances, de la planification et du développement économique

Africa, previously perceived as a slow growing continent is now one of the fastest growing economies in the world, evidenced by the recorded growth rate of more than 5 per cent per year since the beginning of the millennia until 2008.

In order to unleash Africa’s potential to continue to grow at a faster rate and to be the solution to the problems of low global growth and high unemployment, the continent has to address key challenges.

Tackling these challenges require urgent action in areas of strengthening governance institutions ; reforming agriculture ; accelerating technology acquisition and investing in innovation ; investing in human and physical capital ; promoting exports and accelerating regional integration ; addressing gender inequality and the threat of climate change ; and mobilizing the required resources.

The Conference of African Ministers (CoM) 2012 will provide an opportunity to discuss concrete ways of addressing these challenges and the policies needed to position Africa as a pole of global growth
