SESSION I : Background and context of the Study (Study Team)

This session will outline the background to the Study, its objectives, methodology and challenges faced in the process of undertaking it (see Chapters 1, 2 and 3 of the Draft Study Report)

* 10:00 – 11:00 SESSION II : Presentation of the Key Findings of the Study (Study Team)

This session will present the key findings of the Study with respect to (see Chapter 4 of the Draft Study Report)

- Evolution of the GITP between 2006-2011
- Relevance and reliability of the various tools used
- The GI during the mid-term review
- The GI and the EU’s wider support to governance reforms (the harmonisation agenda)
- Synergies with continental and regional processes
- The overall impact of the GI

SESSION III : Overall assessment and conclusions

This session will present three broad (interlinked) messages that emerge from the Study and present some of the conclusions that can be drawn from an analysis of the findings (see sections 4.2 and 4.3 of the Draft Study Report)

* 11:45 – 13:00 SESSION IV : Linking the Governance Initiative to broader issues on governance support (Commission and the Study Team)

This session will put the experience with the GI in the broader perspective of current thinking about and experiences with external support to governance reforms (See Chapter 5 of the Draft Study Report)
The EC will also make short presentation on the current EU thinking and initiatives in the area of governance and democracy support in order to contextualise the recommendations that can ultimately be presented by the study. (Thomas Huyghebaert, Petra Hagelstam DEVCO D1)

* 14:30 – 15:15 SESSION V : Conclusions

This session will jointly reflect on the possible recommendations of the Study on the basis of the findings provided in the previous sessions. The Study Team will present some pointers to structure the discussion

* 15:30– 18:00 Session VI : Looking ahead – joint session with Civil Society representatives - What next after the GI on the overall future EU Support to Governance in Africa and the ACP ? Possible recommendations for a Future Support to Governance

Presentation of the discussion of the day to the CSO followed by a short discussion. Followed by a general debate on the future of EU support to governance.
