Expert Meeting on the elaboration of an African Charter on Decentralization and Local Development

Pursuant to Executive Council Decision EX.CL/Dec.677 (XX), the African Union Commission, in collaboration with the All Africa Ministerial Conference on Decentralization and Local Development and with the support of German International Cooperation (GIZ) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), organized an Expert Consultation on the elaboration of an African Charter on Decentralization and Local Development.

This consultation was held in Yaounde, Cameroon, from 7 to 9 May 2012 and brought together forty participants representing Member States, specialized agencies of the African Union and sub-regional organizations, African research organizations, civil society, as well as the following development partners : the African Union (AU), the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU), the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), the All Africa Ministerial Conference on Decentralization and Local Development (AMCOD), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLGA), Municipal Development Partnership (MDG), German International Cooperation (GIZ), Africa Institute for Governance (AGI), Alliance for Rebuilding Governance in Africa (ARGA), Mandela Institute for development Studies (MINDS), Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA).
