Forum sur la facilitation des échanges et atelier de formation sur la gestion des risques dans les projets d’infrastructure

29 novembre - 2 décembre 2011
Bamako, Mali

The Forum will provide an opportunity for broad-based dialogue on trade transit facilitation as part of efforts towards enhancing the sub-regional integration and the smooth movement of tradable goods. Among other issues, the discussions will focus on the impact of trade transit facilitation issues on the three landlocked countries in the sub-region : Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger.

“The causal relationship between transport and transit cost on the one hand, and trade and economic growth on the other make transit trade facilitation issues particularly important for the overall socio-economic development and trade competitiveness of these landlocked countries,” says Fatoumata Sy Ba, Director of the UNECA SRO-WA. She adds that the Forum outcome will be “focused recommendations to tackle the challenges in this sector, especially regarding custom procedures, border management, and related infrastructure development.”

As part of the ECA SRO-WA capacity building initiatives, the training workshop will combine lectures, group work and practical case studies as tools to strengthen the capacity of participants to better manage the risk associated with the design and implementation of infrastructure projects.

It is expected that government and private sector experts in trade, transport, immigration, customs and logistics, as well as representatives of the African Union Commission, the African Development Bank, academia and research institutions, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations and other development partners will be in attendance.
