IST-Africa 2013 is focused on applied ICT and the core thematic areas include

- ICT Regulatory Frameworks
- IPv6
- Living Labs (Adaptation for Developing Countries)
- Mobile Applications (including mServices, mEducation, Social Networking)
- Open Source Software - Applications
- RFID and Networked Enterprise
- Technology Enhanced Learning and ICT Skills
- Transformation of Research Results into Local Innovation

Interested presenters are encouraged to prepare an 8 page paper (4,000 - 5,000 words) using the IST-Africa 2013 paper guidelines and paper template provided on the IST-Africa Conference Portal.

The IST-Africa Conference Series provides a platform to strengthen Information Society and ICT related policy dialogues within Africa and between Africa and Europe through Plenary Sessions, rich thematic knowledge exchange through the Scientific Programme and co-located multi-lateral (e.g. JEG8) and bi-lateral meetings.

Its reputation is based on high quality discussion, papers, presentations and interactive workshops showcasing innovative ICT and Information Society related research results and applications, whether funded privately, or at national or regional level. Social events are designed to support Community Building.

IST-Africa 2013 will showcase Information Society and ICT policy contributions, research and implementation project results from Africa and Europe (including FP7), and focus on Research Cooperation Opportunities for African organisations under FP7 and Horizon 2020.
