International Conference on Placing Health at the Center of Development in Africa

ISSER is organizing this international conference to concentrate research and political attention on this most important issue of repositioning health as a centre piece of the development agenda for countries such as Ghana. It provides the opportunity to examine the different elements of the aspiration of building a healthy nation. Papers and panel proposals are being invited on the following themes :

1. Health Policies and Development

2. The Social and Economic Burden of Disease

a. Tropical Diseases - Malaria

b. Chronic Diseases- hypertension, diabetes


3. Access to Health Care and Quality of Care

4. Disease Prevention and Public Health Interventions

5. Social Relations, Life-Cycle and Health

a. Men, Women, Children, the Elderly

i. Mental health

ii. Reproductive health

iii. Childhood diseases and health

iv. Sexuality and sexual expression

v. Aging and related health issues

6. Occupational and Environmental Health

7. Health and Disability

8. Financing Health

The conference will combine plenary sessions with parallel sessions and will feature keynote and plenary speakers for particular themes. In addition to papers, poster presentations and documentaries are most welcome.
