Kimberly Process : Through an African Lens : Reimagining responsibilities and definitions in a changing mining sector

It is a product of the consultative conference that SARW organised in partnership with Partnership Canada and International Crisis Group in June this year under the theme : Kimberly Process : Through an African Lens : Reimagining responsibilities and definitions in a changing mining sector.

It contains the most compelling arguments why the KP must adapt or lose its relevance . It is a critic of certification mechanisms that fail to address Africa’s development needs.

The workshop assessed the achievements and failures of the KP and looked at the future of the KP given the changing environment in Africa . Two questions were answered : To what extent is the KP still relevant to the contemporary governance needs of Africa ? What role can Africa play in transforming the KP .
