Presentation of the author(s)

The African Union is the founding institution and principal organisation in promoting and accelerating socio-economic and political integration on the continent, with a view to strengthening unity and solidarity between African countries and its peoples. It is the fruit of discussion that began within the OAU in the 1980s and which led to the official launch of the African Union as a successor to the OAU in 2002.
