Presentation of the author(s)

The Organisation of African Unity (OAU) was established in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) in 1963. Its objective was to strengthen unity and solidarity in African independent states; the liberation and independence of all African territories under colonial rule; and coordinating and increasing inter-state cooperation on the continent. It stopped functioning in 2002 when it was replaced by the African Union (AU).
