December 10-12, 2009
Nairobi, Kenya
In accordance with its mandate and its fields of activity, as defined in the strategic plan of the Commission of the African Union for the 2009-2012 period , the Department of Political Affairs of the African Union Commission, organizes from 10 to 12 December 2009 in Nairobi, Kenya, a meeting on governance. This meeting is part of the follow-up to the recommendations of a previous process of actors on governance in Africa, held in Yaoundé, Cameroon, in March 2009.
The Yaoundé meeting had recommended that the Commission of the African Union develops, in collaboration with the States Member and others of good governance, a pan-African governance architecture. It had also recommended the African Union Commission to work on establishing a Platform on African Governance. The Nairobi meeting, by therefore, aims to create the conditions for a joint implementation of an architecture and a platform of governance, that would be the most relevant possible for institutions and governance initiatives in Africa in the light of the broad mandate of the African Union. The AGI will be represented at the meeting by acting director prof. Geoges Nzongola-Ntalaja.
