CODESRIA, the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa was established in 1973 as an independent Pan-African research organisation with a primary focus on the social sciences, broadly defined. One of its main objective is to promote and facilitate research and knowledge production in Africa using a holistic, multi-disciplinary approach.

Established in 1983, the CODESRIA Documentation and Information Centre (CODICE), collects, processes and disseminates information pertaining to the social sciences.
