Based in Lagos, Nigeria, the Academic Associates PeaceWorks focuses principally on conflict management and peace education training. Its emphasis is to target students who will become future leaders, and in so doing, it works with seven of the main universities in Nigeria. The training for community and local government leaders led in 1997 to the creation of a Nigerian Conflict Peace Network, and during that same year a Corps of Mediators was formed to deal with conflicts at the community level. Academic Associates PeaceWorks also has experience in training government officials (including police forces) and civil society actors in peaceful elections.
